The furute of petcare is in services

Vets, grooming, insurance, wellness. Services are quietly becoming the revenue engine of petcare, and product-only brands are about to feel it.

For years, the story has been all about premiumisation. Better food, fancier treats, human-grade everything. That part is still real.

But look at where the money is actually moving:
▪️ Veterinary care, grooming and insurance are growing faster than most product categories
▪️ Subscriptions and wellness are turning one-off buyers into monthly relationships
▪️ In Spain’s ~3B€ pet economy, services already make up a major share of the ecosystem
▪️ The Nordics are further down this road, with over 90% of Swedish dogs insured, a market already running on services

Why? Because pet parents stopped buying things and started buying peace of mind. A bag of food is a one-off. A health plan or a grooming subscription is a relationship that renews every month.

➡️ Sell only products, and you compete on shelf space and price.
➡️ Wrap a service around the product, and you own RETENTION.

The brands that win the next decade will be the ones that turn a single transaction into a recurring reason to stay 🧡
