Pet parents are driving the change in pet air travel

The industry isn’t shifting on its own, pet parents are driving the change.

Take Vueling (an airline from Barcelona) as an example:
→ Increased pet capacity per flight to 5 (before 3)
→ Weight allowance has grown to 10kg pet + carrier (before 8kg)
→ Pets can now be added during online booking (as extra baggage)

Current limitations (still very real)
→ 1 pet per passenger
→ Max 5 pets per flight (but only 2 on Iberia operated flights)
→ Pets must remain inside the carrier at all times
→ Under-seat only (no dedicated space)
→ Not available on routes to/from the UK and Iceland

So what’s new?
→ Increasing capacity (slightly)
→ Digitising the booking experience

But still missing:
→ Seat selection for passengers travelling with pets should be fully digitalised and integrated into the booking process
→ Rethinking pets as part of the passenger ecosystem

And do we know what’s coming next? (already emerging in Italy)
→ A different model where pet = seat-based passenger
→ New pricing logic
→ New operational and safety standards

We’re not seeing a transformation yet, but we’re seeing pressure building inside the existing system.

And that pressure is coming from one place:

Families who no longer accept leaving their pets behind 🧡
