The Nordics’ leading pet retailer made a massive move last April.
Musti ja Mirri (Musti Group) opened its first vet clinic inside one of its stores.
The opening of Tammiston Eläinklinikka (Tammisto vet clinic, in Vantaa, near Helsinki’s airport) represents a major strategic move for the Nordic’s region’s largest pet care retailer.
While Musti ja Mirri has in the past operated minor vet reception points for minor issues like vaccinations, Tammisto represents a fully equipped, modern veterinary clinic capable of complex procedures like dental work, diagnostic imaging (X-rays/ultrasound), and even surgeries.
And I want to especially talk today about what this means, because the opening serves as an excellent case study in branding and marketing strategy.

➡️ From Brand perspective
For decades, Musti ja Mirri was the place, here in Finland, where you went to buy pet food, treats, accessories and cat litter. The launch of a high-functioning vet clinic shifts the consumer perception entirely. When a brand handles both your dog’s favourite treats and their dental surgery, it elevates trust and authority.
Pet parents, like consumers in general, we favour convenience.
A single location where to buy food, receive grooming services but also puppy training or physiotherapy is a full scale unmatched ecosystem.
➡️ From Business perspective
Expanding deeper into vetcare makes immense financial sense, especially as the retail landscape faces constant pressure from global ecommerce giants.
You can buy dog food on Amazon and get nice discounts online, but you cannot get a surgery at home. Medical services anchor the customer locally.
The strategic cross-selling loop that is created here is incredibly powerful.
For instance, the vet diagnoses your dog with food allergies, you are already at the shop with plenty of options to choose from. The groomer notices an ear infection, you have right there the in-house clinic for a medical evaluation on spot.
➡️ From Marketing perspective
Integrating a high-intent service like vetcare unlocks new dimensions. Musti ja Mirri’s loyalty program is notoriously robust. By integrating vet visits into the program, customers earn bonus points on medical treatments, which can then be redeemed for retail items. This heavily incentivises pet owners to stay.
But the key interesting part is that the retailer has all the customer’s data.
Combining medical history data with retail purchasing habits provides the business the ability to predict and recommend targeted product solutions personalised for each pet they might have.

This move is a broader retail trend across Europe and North America (similar to Petco building Vetco clinics).
For Musti ja Mirri, it’s no longer just about selling products, it’s about managing the entire lifespan of your pet 🧡
