It always fascinates me how Finland, among Europe’s most pet friendly countries, can be so polarized on everyday things like supermarket visits.
While one major chain still offers “dog parking” outside its stores, nobody really uses, the other one has taken a different route, introducing since 2023 “koirakärry” in selected locations.
The koirakärry is a special trolley that allows dogs to join their owners inside.
A small but clever example of how retail can adapt to changing lifestyles and more pet inclusive families.
I have my own take on this. I don’t like either of the options.
→ I’m too southern to leave my dog in the parking alone (dog thefts).
→ The trolley is not comfortable for all types of dogs.
But I want to know, what’s your take on this?
Dogs should be welcome inside supermarkets or not?
Have you spotted a “koirakärry” in your local store, or seen other creative ways shops are welcoming pets?
